Blue Film is the debut release from LA resident Lo-Fang. The songs within are pretty standard singer songwriter fare, but are heavily augmented with a backdrop of decent electronica. The production is excellent throughout, but with a few exceptions (‘When We’re Fire’ and ‘Animal Urges’ particularly), the song writing just can’t match up to it. Occasionally a decent song threatens to break out, but all too often the flow is brought to a halt all too quickly, with a clumsy transition to a section that removes any momentum that had previously built up. There is plenty of potential to be seen, but sadly this debut is generally pretty hollow and, in places, borders on the pretentious.
